Course programme

This A level covers the three following units:
  • Drama and theatre
  • Creating original drama
  • Making theatre

This includes analysis of plays, in relation to the ways in which style, form, dramatic structure and characterisation can be interpreted and realised in performance, including the social, historical and cultural context of the plays.

There is also a requirement for students to attend a range of productions, and to undertake appropriate research prior to the performance. For the creating original drama and making theatre units, students will adopt roles such as performer, director or designer and learn how to create and develop original, devised ideas to communicate meaning as part of the theatre making process. Students must learn how to contribute to devised drama in a live theatre context for an audience.
