Drama - GCSE

What are the main features of this course?
Working individually and in groups you will study a wide range of options for practical work incorporating differing approaches to, and philosophies of Drama. This course will develop an interest in, and understanding of, a range of theatre and drama experiences, imaginative, creative, communication and social skills, and increase self and group awareness. You will study text work which is linked to practical experience gained during the course. You will learn how to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of practical skills and techniques, work with sensitivity to the needs of the group, and analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of your own ideas and those of others.

Hours of Lessons per Week : 3.7
Indicative Group Size : 15

How is the course assessed?
Paper 1 is the practical component with 60% of the total marks. It is divided into 2 sections - preparatory and exploratory work, and performance/presentation. Paper 2 is the written component consisting of 2 types of question - a review of a play studied, and a review of a play seen as live theatre.

Who should study this course?
This GCSE is suitable for anyone interested in theatre, dance or general performance drama. Previous experience is helpful but not necessary, however, the wish to work constructively with others and communicate ideas through performance is necessary.

Where can I go next?
This course will prepare you for AS and A level Drama and Theatre Studies, and AS & A level Performance Studies, as well as giving you good communication skills and an expressive and creative approach to all studies you may undertake.
