The day will begin with Jon demonstrating several methods of painting with palette knives of a variety of shapes. Jon will discuss the relative merits of knives and brushes for various tasks.
Students will then set up a simple still life of two object in order to practise these techniques. Each student will use two canvasses (or boards), one to practise making marks on and the other to paint the still life. A limited palette of paints will be used to reduce the complexity of colour mixing.

Course programme
This class is limited to 9 students. The workshop room is located within the main school of LARA London.
end result
Students will taken home their quick still life painting and knowledge of palette knife techniques to apply in their own work. Students will also take home their practice boards for reference.

about Jon Gidlow
Jon Gidlow originally studied applied science at the University of Leeds, but over the years felt an increasing pull towards the arts. Finding that the pictures he was drawn to had a level of realism and skill, he began studying at LARA and finally graduated in 2016.
Jon has appeared at various galleries in London and been shortlisted for the A&I Artist of the Year in 2017.
