Course summary

Kent based, LearnInvicta, offers the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (7305) is ideal for those whose job role or career aspirations are to teach in the ‘full’ role. It fulfils the qualification requirement for all new entrants aiming to achieve Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.

The DTLLS is based on role, not progression from the CTLLS.

Run by LearnInvicta Limited and accredited through City & Guilds.

The ‘full role’ teacher is defined as someone who teaches: using materials they have designed and evaluated, across a range of levels, subjects and learner types, across a range of programmes of varying lengths. The role requires an extensive range of knowledge, understanding and application of curriculum development. The role encompasses full-time, part-time, temporary and permanent contract holders.

PrerequisitesYou are required to have either achieved the PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) qualification or a suitable equivalent. There are a number of exemptions and partial exemptions and full details can be found on the SVUK Tariff Website. You must be qualified in the subject you intend to teach by virtue of holding an appropriate professional qualification or employed in a training/teaching role. Candidates will come from a variety of vocational backgrounds, but will be seeking to gain a qualification for the 'full' teaching role. They may already be in-role, or have no prior experience, but must have access to 150 hours of teaching practice across a range of levels in recognised locations.Course description

The qualification is structured in two Parts, supporting the development and acquisition of the skills, knowledge and practice required for the ‘full’ teaching role. There are 360 contact hours (directed study time) and 840 non contact hours (self directed study), which includes 150 hours teaching practice, observed over a minimum of eight hours over eight occasions.

Each session will be a full day and will involve a combination of:

· Activities

· Group discussions

· Presentations

· Simulations

· Case studies

· Workshops

· Reading and research

· Role play

· Micro-teaching

To achieve the DTLLS Certificate you need complete enough units to gain 120 credits, including the PTLLS which provides 9 credits towards the total.

The Diploma assessment methods comprise a range of creative and informative theory and practical tasks, with a focus on ‘hands on’ learning.

It is good practice to keep an ongoing journal/diary. After each session attended, or session you have taught, make a note of what you feel you have learnt, what was good about it and what you need to develop further.

To achieve the qualification, candidates must successfully complete both the theory and practice assignments covering all required Sections. You will be required to organise your work in a systematic way and produce a programme folder containing all the required tasks, as well as a teaching practice portfolio.
