Dutch Intermediate/GCSE

Your Course
This is a one year course for students with some previous knowledge of Dutch, leading to the GCSE examination [optional] in the Summer Term.
The course is based on a communicative approach and aims to develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the foreign language. It aims to enable students to understand and use Dutch effectively and with confidence for purposes of practical communication, to develop an understanding of Dutch grammar and to offer insight into the culture of Dutch speaking countries. Students who wish to take the exam at the end of the year may do so at either Foundation level, Higher level or a combination of both levels, depending on the grade for which they wish to aim. Students will learn how to cope with a range of encounters, using formal and familiar styles of address, conduct realistic everyday conversations, compare information and take the initiative in various situations. They will be taught how to use past, present and future tenses in all skills. The oral examination will be taken in April/May during class time, towards the end of the 30 week course. A course book will be recommended.
The examination board we use is OCR>
