Who is this course for?
The course is designed for people who want to work with children in a care and education setting. What are the entry requirements?
Evidence from initial and diagnostic assessment of you ability to work at this level is required. We can arrange for a police check for a small fee. You are required to demonstrate your ability to foster a commitment to the values of working with children.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
    • Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2

      You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
    • Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

    You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.


What qualification will I receive?
Upon successful completion of the course and assessments, you will receive a City & Guilds Certificate - Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education.

What will I study?
You will study child development, physical, intellectual, social and emotional development and language acquisition. You will learn how to plan an Early Years Curriculum, implement and plan for learning to support the 'foundation stage' learning outcomes for children. You will study current child protection legislation and current good practice. It is expected that you are working at a supervisory level in an early years setting, and have authority to maintain relationships with parents.

How will I be taught?
You will attend evening lectures, research reading material; carry out practical assignments in both college and the workplace. You will be expected to attend at least one Saturday session at the college.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed with completed college assignments and questioning. You will be directly observed in the workplace by your assessor.

What will it cost?
Age under 19 on 31st August of the year you start your course? Study forFREE.

On income-based benefit? You could study for only £30.
