Course programme
ECONOMICS
Why should I come to Pendleton College?
There are well-qualified and experienced tutors on the team. Students have access to a dedicated resources area where they can use the department's wide range of up to date materials.
What will I study?
The course is divided neatly into micro and macroeconomic subjects at AS and at A-Level, with each exam focusing on one section. Year One modules:
What will I achieve?
Economics is relevant to banking, insurance, business, local government civil service and accountancy. Having studied Economics at this level you can go on to the workplace with a better understanding of how the economy operates. This can lead on to Higher Education as well as many career paths.
How is the course assessed?
All units are assessed by modular examinations in January and June. The AS question paper is based on a case study and includes some short answer and data interpretation questions, plus one extended question. The first A-Level exam is made up of two parts: a mandatory data response question and a choice of structured questions. The second exam is based on a pre-seen case study.
What else will I do?
Students will have an opportunity to take part in the management of the Pendleton College shop. Every year there is a trip to a European financial centre (London, Frankfurt or Brussels). Students will also get the opportunity to take part in share trading games, business challenges at local universities, the Young Business Writer of the Year competition and Young Enterprise.
