Part-Time Programme

Students on this programme have honours degrees in economics or the equivalent; many students also have practical experience working in a field requiring knowledge of economics. This programme provides students with a solid grounding in advanced empirical and analytical methods used in policy, commercial and academic work in economics. The programme therefore assumes that students are familiar with the essential concepts and relationships and instead focuses on developing students' ability to do original applied work with advanced economic methods.

Objectives

• Provides guidance and experience in the use of received methods of economic analysis and measurement;
• Examines the issues behind current controversies in economic theory and policy;
• Familiarises students with advanced concepts used in economic analysis, so that most papers in academic journals and in the public and commercial domain come within their reach;
• Employs advanced analytical techniques to explore certain issues in economics in depth;
• Trains students in quantitative skills and requires them to combine their economic and quantitative understanding in an original piece of applied work.
