Barbara Horn has more than 30 years' experience in educational and trade publishing and now works as a freelance editor, project manager, consultant and trainer, specialising in editorial and project management. She is a regular tutor on the Publishing Training Centre's open courses and the author of Copy-Editing by Distance Learning.

Solveig Gardner Servian has more than 20 years' publishing experience, ranging from print production to editorial management. For a major part of her career she was Managing Editor at Gower Publishing Ltd and she now runs her own business. Solveig is also a tutor for PTC's Copy-Editing by Distance Learning course.
Course fees
Editorial Project Management by Distance Learning is £485, which can be paid in instalments. This covers all course materials, marking of modules and professional tutor support. It does not cover your postage costs or the cost of telephone calls to your tutor.

There are no specific required qualifications, but to get the most out of the course you should have editorial experience.

If you pass you will get a certificate from us, which is not externally verified. However, because we are the industry and government approved training body for the publishing sector and our business is training publishing professionals, your certificate of achievement should be widely recognised throughout the industry.

Can I enrol if I live outside the UK?
Yes. We have had students from all over the world. There is an extra charge of £20 to cover additional postage.

When can I enrol?
You can enrol at any time of year.

Is the course only for freelances?
No. If you already work in publishing, the course can supplement and consolidate in-company training or work experience.

For more than twenty-five years, the Publishing Training Centre at Book House (PTC) has provided cost-effective and high quality training for publishers in the UK and overseas. Previously known as Book House Training Centre, it's an educational charity dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in publishing.

Although we're best known for our core editorial skills training for book and journal publishers, we actually offer about 70 open courses, covering the complete range of publishing skills. Training in IT and electronic publishing is also now a key part of our portfolio.
