This qualification is a direct replacement for the Edexcel Level 3/Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (2011). This is a 36 credit course and is the equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree.

Course programme

Learners will develop and apply their understanding of the taxonomy of issues relevant to teaching and assessing in the Education and Training sector. There are five mandatory units which will be completed prior to three additional units: Unit 1: Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training (3 credits) Unit reference number: H0053 UNIT AIMS: This unit aims to enable the learner to understand the role and responsibilities of a teacher in education and training and the relationship between different professionals in education and training. Unit 2: Planning to Meet the Needs of Learners in Education and Training (3 credits) Unit reference number: A1189 UNIT AIMS: The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to agree individual learning goals with their students, to plan inclusive teaching and learning in accordance with internal processes and external requirements, and to evaluate their own practice in planning teaching and learning. It covers what expectations are in relation to the minimum core in planning inclusive teaching and learning. Unit 3: Delivering Education and Training (6 credits) Unit reference number: M0122 UNIT AIMS: The aim of this unit is to enable learners to use inclusive teaching and learning approaches in accordance with internal processes and external requirements, to communicate with students and to evaluate their delivery practice. Unit 4: Assessing Learners in Education and Training (6 credits) Unit reference number: F0125 UNIT AIMS: This unit aims to enable learners to use different types and methods of assessment, to conduct and record assessment and to evaluate their assessment practice. Unit 5: Using Resources for Education and Training (3 credits) Unit reference number: L0127 UNIT AIMS: The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to use resources in the delivery of inclusive teaching and learning and to be able to evaluate that use. There are also 3 additional units: Unit 18: Equality & Diversity Unit 24: Preparing for the Mentoring Role Unit 28: Understanding and Managing Behaviours in a Learning Environment It is anticipated that students will: Applicants do not require any formal entry qualifications; however, a level 3 qualification (e.g. A-level) in the subject they wish to teach is desirable. Candidates will undertake a diagnostic assessment in literacy and numeracy at interview stage. Learners who have achieved Level 4 Certificate in Education and training can progress to a further training qualification such as a Certificate in Education and Training or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. If you are aged 19 or over and considering enrolling on a further education course at Level 3 or above, you may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to help with course fees.
