Who is this course for? This professional training scheme is available to anybody who teaches young people and adults, and is particularly applicable to practicing, and aspiring, full and part-time teachers and trainers within the broad field of continuing and post-compulsory education. This includes Higher Education, Further Education, Adult Education, Leisure and Youth work. It also includes training personnel in HM Forces, Commerce, Industry and the Public Services.

Previous knowledge required: Possession of appropriate vocational and /or academic qualifications. Appropriate experience in a relevant vocational field (for those with vocational qualifications) Ability to be able to relate to students/trainees in post-compulsory education.

What will I study? The course prepares teachers and trainers for employment within the Post-16 Sector. The emphasis throughout the course is on helping participants to gain confidence and competence by acquiring the essential skills, knowledge and understamding of successful practice. To further their personal and professional development, participants are encouraged to take a major responsibility for planning and managing their experiences and progress. Participants will study the following modules: Year 1: Introduction to Teaching Perspectives on Learning Planning and Assessing Learning Group Learning and its Management Professional Development 1 Year 2: Curriculum in Context Alternative Learning Strategies Learning Technologies Mentoring and Tutoring Professional Development 2

How will I be assessed?

What will I achieve? On successful completion of the course, graduate participants will receive the Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (Education & Training) and non-graduate participants will receive the Certificate in Education (Education & Training) awarded by the University of Wales Newport. It is possible to take the 'Introduction to Teaching' module on its own without taking the rest of the course. It lasts for 10 weeks and is certified. A course fee is payable (details will be provided on application).
