PROCAT has designed this 8-day course based on feedback from clients. It is aimed at industry experienced crafts persons/technicians/engineers who have a basic understanding of electrical installations without being qualified electricians. The course enables you to gain an awareness of how to perform certain electrical tasks safely. It is split into two parts of four course days each, which are delivered with a gap in between to allow candidates to make use of the knowledge gained.

Course programme
The course is split into two parts. Part 1 covers amongst other things:
- Health & Safety
- Emergency / safe isolation
- Awareness of relevant parts of theBS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations and Electricity at Work Regulations
- Awareness of BSEN:60617 symbols
- Methods and techniques for assembling electrical circuits and components
- Wiring and termination of cables
- Test methods to check completed circuit is safe and meets specification
Part 2 covers amongst other things:
- Risk assessments, method statements, maintenance request sheets
- Understanding of maintenance activities and procedures
- Recognising fault finding techniques and diagnostic aids
- Measuring, inspecting and operating equipment
- Practical activities, such as: Making off load checks, testing equipment before disconnecting it, removing and reconnecting component wires and cables, identification markers, adjusting and replacing damaged or defective components
- Knowledge of testing and inspection techniques and relevant certification
