About this course

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English, maths, science and one other subject at grade 4 (C) or above is required.



Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.

Course programme

Year 1

The course will include a balance between the understanding of theory and principles and their application in a practical environment, You will study a range of specialist electrical and electronic subjects including electronic devices, electrical principles, measurement and testing, micro-controllers and mathematics. Incorporated into your study you will learn how to design, build and test electronic circuits, run simulations and program microprocessor circuits.

Year 2

In year two, you will undertake a large project which will incorporate knowledge gained across the range of subjects studied, together with electronic fault-finding, electrical technology, analogue electronics, further electrical principles, electrical machines and further mathematics.

Additional information

The course involves practical projects and write ups together with written assignments, controlled assessments and presentations.
