ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

3 GCSEs Grade E or above including Mathematics, English and Science satisfactory interviews selection tests. All candidates need to produce references and to be successful at interview.

Because of the practical content of the course, general hand skills and hand/eye co-ordination are essential. Applicants must declare any difficulty with colour perception, as employment opportunities may be restricted.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is for those wishing to make a career in the electrical industry.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
  • Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
  • Working Effectively and Efficiently in Engineering
  • Using and Communicating Technical Information
  • Wiring Electrical Equipment and Circuits
  • Assembling Electrical Wiring Support Systems
Functional Skills (16-18 yrs). It is a government requirement for all full time students under 19 years of age to undertake functional skills.

Work Experience

Work placements and any work experience are highly desirable but subject to availability. All candidates are expected, and encouraged, to do their best to gain purposeful work experience during their course. It is not realistic for the College to be expected to find trainees a placement, though we will do all we can to assist in finding suitable opportunities. The timetable is designed to give all candidates the opportunity to complete at least one/two days of work experience within their academic week.

Extra Activities

The College can offer a variety of additional qualifications and activities beyond the core course requirements. All students are invited to complete additional qualifications.

HOW WILL I LEARN?
Attendance is normally two days a week with an additional half day for the first few weeks to undertake Key Skills.

Generally there is a requirement for completion of practical exercises and knowledge assessments for each unit. The course is structured and delivered by continuous assessment. It will be your responsibility to update your record book which will show evidence of your experience and achievements.

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
Progression to C&G 2330 L2 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology

Subsequently through to the City & Guilds 2330 L3 and the relevant NVQ 3 Electrotechnical qualification, (this is dependant upon adequate work based evidence to support N.V.Q. assessment)

Note: Entry to City & Guilds 2330 Level 2 is by the satisfactory completion of Level 1 together with Functional Skills in Communication or Application of Number. A satisfactory report from your Course Tutor, along with a good attendance record is also required.
