Electrical Installation Level 1 Diploma (QCF) LocationDorset Centre for the Creative Arts Course Overview Apply Now This qualification allows you to acquire basic knowledge and craft skills of electrical installation. It does not require occupational evidence from the workplace, so is suitable for those who currently do not work within the electrical, and may wish to prepare for study at level 2. This qualification facilitates progression to further engineering and building services qualifications. It will give you an opportunity to practice and be assessed in a secure environment on the installation of wiring systems together with the relevant theory of electrical installation. You will gain skills and knowledge in a range of electrical engineering aspects ensuring that you are able to work both competently and safely. You will have the opportunity to utilise the IET On-Site-Guide with some of the units; and also acquire the knowledge of electrical science and principles. For the Level 1 course you will study at the College for three days a week with approximately 60% of the course being theory and 40% practical. It combines lectures, directed study, workshop activities and simulated jobs in the College.

Course programme

• Selection is by interview. • You must complete a colour blindness and skills assessment test. • We welcome applications from mature students. Plus the following: • At least 4 GCSEs at minimum grade E, or equivalent, including maths and science. • A positive working attitude. Course Content The course consists of five units of study: • Health and Safety in Electrical Installation • Environmental protection measures within building services engineering • Installation Methods, Procedures and Requirements • Electrical Installation Craft Skills • Electrical Science, Principles and Technology • Preparing for an Interview • Managing Study and Developing Learning Skills. Progression You can progress your learning with Weymouth College from Level 1 through to Level 3, which provides a good grounding for entry to the electrical engineering and installation industries. Those who successfully complete the Level 1 course may be able to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation. The course should provide an enhanced understanding of the principles and skills required for these industries, and allow progression to higher education. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases. • Bursary funds There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19s.
