ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
a) Have obtained a Level I electrical qualification and have also achieved or are working towards Key Skills in Communication and/or Application of Number or have completed a Level II Basic Skills qualification in English and Maths or equivalent
or
b) 3 GCSEs Grade A-C including English, Maths and Science and also ideally currently or have been employed within the electrical industry
All candidates need to produce references and to be successful at interview.
Because of the practical content of the course, general hand skills and hand/eye co-ordination are essential. Applicants must declare any difficulty with colour perception, as employment opportunities may be restricted.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This is an intermediate course for those candidates who have already achieved a Level I electrical qualification. This qualification is also ideal for those candidates who have gained some on site electrical experience and wish to further their career.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Your course will be centred around developing the skills and knowledge required to become a practising electrician. Subject areas will include the requirements of BS7671 in relationship to both domestic, commercial and industrial installations. You will learn the latest industry practices and techniques and this will be developed in both the classroom and workshop environment. Other areas for development will be of a scientific nature and will include the principles of motors. Generators, single phase and three phase theory.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
The course is a combination of practical and theory workshops. .Attendance is either one day per week or two evenings per week. In order to gain the full qualification you will be required to complete two practical assessments normally completed over a three to four day period together with four external City and Guilds examinations.
