Three GCSEs at Grade E including Maths, Science and English or equivalent and also ideally currently or have been employed with the electrical industry.

All candidates will be required to produce references and to be successful at interview.

Because of the practical content of the course, general hand skills and hand/eye co-ordination are essential. Applicants must declare any difficulty with colour perception, as employment opportunities may be restricted.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

Anyone seeking a career change but cannot commit to full time education. This course will act as a foundation to enable candidates to complete a City & Guilds Level II 2330 Technical Certificate in only one year (part time). The mode of delivery for this course is either one day per week or two evenings for one year.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
By the end of this course, you will have gained an insight into the design and installation for electrical systems within domestic premises. You will have covered both theory and regulations together with some scientific concepts associated with electricity. You will know how to install circuitry to BS7671 and also you will have an understanding of how to test and fault find in domestic installations. The knowledge gained during this year will contribute towards a Level II Technical Certificate.

HOW WILL I LEARN?
Delivery, 50% of the course will be practical-based within purpose built electrical workshops. The remainder of your time will be classroom based learning the theoretical concepts associated with electrical work. Course content will include:-

Electrical theory

Electronics theory

Health & Safety

Working with others

Examinations will consist of both multiple choice and practical assessments carried out during stages of the course

WHAT WILL THIS COURSE LEAD TO

This course will lead to a Level II City & Guilds 2330 Technical Certificate when combined with either 3 GCSEs Grade A-C including Maths, Science & English or as a minimum a Level II Basic Skills Qualification in English and Maths. or equivalent i.e. Key Skills Level II.
