Electrical Installation (VRQ Level 2)

ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION WORK
From 1 January 2005, electrical installation work in domestic buildings must comply with Building Regulations Part P. Work can only be done by persons who are competent to do so, and must be certified as competently done, compliant with regulations and safe.

SUMMARY
This VRQ is available for candidates who need to comply with the part P Building Regulations requirements and prove they are competent to carry out electrical work in domestic dwellings. The qualification will allow candidates to be nominated as "qualified supervisor" with a Competent Persons Scheme. Registration with such a scheme will enable self-certification of domestic electrical installation work to Building Regulations. Successful candidates will be considered to have achieved competence as a DOMESTIC ELECTRICAL INSTALLER.

ASSESSMENT
Nine practical units with short multiple-choice tests and one externally-set multiple choice exam.

REGISTRATION AS A COMPETENT PERSON
The course provides the underpinning knowledge and skills to support your application to become a Qualified Supervisor. You must be registered with the Applicable Building Regulations (part P) Self Certification Scheme. Your company or employer must be registered with the approved part P competent person scheme.

QUALIFIED ELECTRICIANS
If you already hold IEE 16th Edition qualification, City & Guilds 236 part 2 or equivalent achieved in the last three years, with up-to-date knowledge and experience, you may only need to complete the first unit.
