Are you interested in electrical installation work and wishing to become a qualified electrician? If so, this qualification is designed for new entrants to the Electrotech industry, providing you with the basic skills and experience you need. The course is available either full- or part-time. The part-time option is taken over either two evenings or one-day per week. This programme will be of particular interest to adult learners.

About this course
Successful students with a proven track record of good attendance and behaviour can progress on to our Level 3 programme as a route towards achieving Approved Electrician status.
This will help towards gaining employment in the Electrical Contracting Industry and enable you to get onto the NVQ Programme which is also offered by Havering College.
You will preferably already have GCSEs Grade A-C in English, maths and science. However, adult entry (over 19) will be considered based on work and other experience. Other Level 2 qualifications may be acceptable and are by agreement at interview.
You will also need a satisfactory reference and interview.
It is preferred that candidates are working in, or moving into the Electrical Contracting Industry.

Course programme
The course provides practical and theoretical tuition. There are a number of practical tasks that you will need to carry out during the year. This is combined with a high level of underpinning knowledge in workshop/site safety, electrical principles, science and regulations. It is approximately 50:50 theory/practical.
Course Assessment Method
There are formal assessments to test your knowledge in the form of computer-based examinations, practical assessments and completion of a portfolio.
Compulsory units include:
- Unit 201 Health and safety in building services engineering;
- Unit 202 Principles of Electrical Science;
- Unit 203 Electrical installations;
- Unit 204 Installation of wiring systems and enclosures;
- Unit 210 Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering.
