Course programme

This ‘hands on’ programme comprises of 3 x 5-day modules, namely Introduction to Basic Electrical Maintenance (1), Electrical Intermediate (2), Electrical Advanced (3). Each module is deliberately planned to allow individuals to return to the workplace and gain relevant experience before returning to Waterside for further training, practical skills and knowledge.

The delegates underpinning knowledge can be formally certificated via examination through a recognised

awarding body. This option is recommended if the company and or the individual have chosen to follow up

this course with a Vocational Qualification to assess competency.

Course Contents:

· Basic electrical principles (V, I, R)

· Single phase AC, 3-phase AC and DC supplies

· Protection against shock

· Operation of over current and earth leakage devices

· Safely and correctly using a range of electrical test and measuring equipment

· Treatment for electric shock, resuscitation and first aid procedures

· EAWR 1989 and 17th IEE Wiring Regulations

· Identifying and terminating cables, plugs etc

· Operation and testing of AC motors

· Generation, transmission and distribution of electricity

· Operation of solenoids, contactors, transformers

· Reading wiring/circuit diagrams

· Electrical underpinning knowledge checked

Additional Information:

· The course runs 8.30 am until 4.00 pm

· The course venue is in our purpose built technology centre

· Lunch and refreshments are provided

· Directions and joining instructions will be sent prior to course commencement

· Certificate of training - EAL Certificate in Engineering Practices, exam - optional (EAL certification on completion of Advanced Module)
