What's it all about?:
This competence-based course seeks to deepen the understanding of craft processes, technology and related science. It also aims to introduce a study of special installation conditions, to promote a knowledge and understanding of the regulations and conditions under which the industry operates, and to introduce a study of job organisation.

Progression:
This programme naturally leads on to the level 3 certificate in electrotechnical technology.

Entry Requirements:
In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need one of the following:
• in addition to the standard level 2 requirements a minimum of a grade C in GCSE Maths is required • a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
• an NVQ Level 1/technical certificate in a related subject
• successful completion of the Gateway/Newstart course
• successful completion of the E2E/Prince's Trust course
• equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Course Overview
What does the course involve?:

This course is designed to provide opportunities for you to gain a technical certificate in electrical installation at level 2. The emphasis is on learning by doing, not on competence. You are required to complete a number of assignments to show your attainment of practical skills. Certification is awarded by successful completion of the three core units plus one occupational unit.

Please ask for advice on possible options relating to installation or maintenance routes. The technical certificate will provide the first part of the technical knowledge required by the electrotechnical NVQ at level 3 (City & Guilds 2356) occupational standards.

Are there any exams?:
There are multiple choice examination papers for each of the four units required at level 2. These examinations are online testing, there are also a number of practical assignments assessed at the centre.
