Entry requirements
There are no specific entry requirements, although a good level of numeracy/literacy is required. City College Plymouth can provide support if needed, please contact us to discuss your needs.
Please be advised that candidates attending this course must have a good standard of general fitness as the course includes procedures such as kneeling to render resuscitation to a casualty lying on the ground.

What you'll learn
The course covers:
- the role of the first aider and the importance of preventing cross infection
- the need for recording incidents and actions
- using available equipment
- assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- administering first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
- administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automated external defibrillator
- administering first aid to a casualty who is choking
- administering first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
- administering first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
- providing appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
