Candidates will have the confidence to: Understand the roles and responsibilities of the first aider. Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency. Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) correctly. Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking. Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding. Recognise and treat the signs and symptoms of shock. Deal with minor injuries. Suitable for: Anyone who wants to learn basic lifesaving skills and CPR to give them the confidence to save lives. This new EFAW course was introduced by HSE on October 1st 2009, to replace the longer First Aid at Work (FAW) course for lower risk environments in an urban area, such as offices, call centres, shops, hotels, and companies with fewer than 100 employees. The course will give everyone the confidence to apply basic life saving skills whilst waiting for the emergency services, and treat minor injuries. This course replaces the previous Appointed Person course.

About this course
First Aid is an active and practical and interactive subject. Participants are normally required to be physically fit and able to kneel, twist and bend over simulated casualties, sit on the floor to perform simulated CPR, roll, help roll and help lift simulated casualties. Please bring any possible medical problems or special needs to our attention before booking the course and also advise the course trainer at the start of the course, as we may have a strategy to help and will always endeavour to make reasonable adjustments.
