Course programme
This qualification covers all the main first aid injuries life-threatening conditions and illnesses.
It is an approved course which fulfils the legal requirements of low hazard employers under the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regs. 1981.
On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:
- Understand the role of the First Aider including the importance of preventing cross infection; the need for recording incidents and actions; the use of available equipment.
- Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious ( including seizure)
- Adminster CPR
- Adminster first aid to a casualty who is choking; wounded and bleeding; suffering from shock
- Provide appropriate First Aid for minor injuries ( including small cuts, grazes and bruises; minor burns and scalds; small splinters)
If time permits, additional topics such as Heart Attack & Angina; Stroke, Concussion and compression; Epilepsy; Diabetes; Poisoning and Asthma may briefly be covered.
