Introduction:
A BTEC National Award is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills needed to start a career in this field. This course is equivalent to one A level.

Study Mode & Location:
This one year part-time course will last for 7.5 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
There are two routes which you may follow, namely an Electrical/Electronic route or a Mechanical route. There are common units between these two routes, with units of study including:

  • Maths for Technicians.

  • Primary Forming Processes.
  • Engineering Materials.


Due to the nature of the course, any additional study time will help you achieve a better understanding and a higher grade.

Assessment:
All units are assessed via a combination of assignments and tests. An overall grade for the qualification will be awarded.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to higher level studies or employment. The course is generally considered as a bridging course for those with previous engineering experience who would like to progress to an HNC qualification.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
