  • Course summary
    This is an employment-related degree that will be studied part time over 3 years (one day per week). It offers a mix of skills and knowledge which employers and professional bodies are looking for. The first two years are equivalent to HNC. You have the option to study for a further academic year to -top-up' to a BSc Degree programme and/or a 5th year to complete a BSc Honours Degree. The Foundation Degree is awarded by Staffordshire University.

    You will cover: Personal Development, Mathematics, Design Principles and Project, Project work and special modules such as: Electrical and Electronic Principles, Electrical Power and Applied Electronics Technology.
  • Who is suited to the course?
    You will be currently working in the engineering industry, would like to gain a nationally recognised higher education qualification, already have a level 3 qualification and prefer to study part-time.
  • How is the course assessed?
    Assessment is through: Live projects / work-based project, Written assignments and reports, Formal time constrained assessment, Group presentations, Peer assessment / feedback, Practical assessment and Employer assessment.
  • Work based learning?
    In order to meet the requirements of the course you will be required to undertake work-based project during the third year of study.
  • What equipment or resources might I need?
    You will need a scientific calculator.
  • Progression routes after course
    On completion of the Foundation Degree you may progress to the BSc and/or BSc Honours degree in Manufacturing Engineering.
