What qualifications will I get?

BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in General Engineering
awarded by Edexcel

How will I be assessed?

There will be a wide range of assessment methods and equipment appropriate to the learning outcomes and assessment criteria, and all assessments consider the practices used within the engineering sector. Whilst credit is awarded at a threshold level of achievement only, grading arrangements will apply to individual units which will allow for the reward of merit and distinction achievement according to Edexcel’s published grading domains and criteria.

Assessment is considered an important part of the learning process.  In formulating the methods of assessment for this award, care was taken to ensure that all assessments test the skills and knowledge needed in the Engineering working environment.  Assessment methods are diverse and include problem based assignments, work-based projects requiring oral and written reports, individual exercises experimental work, work-based assignments and phase tests.

What is the entry process?

Applications should be made through UCAS, using the institution code for Warwickshire College - W25 and the course code 007H.  Applicants will complete familiarisation exercises and will be interviewed prior to a place being offered.

Applicants will be assessed on individual experience and will be expected to demonstrate an ability to study at higher education level. Students should be able to demonstrate a strong interest in a relevant sector of engineering.

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Full level 3

Applicants will be assessed on individual experience and will be expected to demonstrate an ability to study at higher education level. Students should be able to demonstrate a strong interest in the engineering industry and/or Mechanical/Electrical/Manufacturing engineering.

Normally, applicants will be expected to have achieved a minimum of 80 UCAS points. This is equivalent to:

-One A Level (science or mathematics is recommended) or

-BTEC National Certificate in Engineering or
-BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering: Pass-Pass and above
-BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering: Pass-Pass-Pass and above

BTEC Nationals should include a module of Science and a module of Further Mathematics at Level 3 and at least two units achieved with merit grade.

Entry to the course requires all students to complete a successful interview and familiarisation exercises. Accreditation for Prior (Experiential) Learning will be considered.

AP(E)L applications are presented in the form of a portfolio of evidence which may include, for example, certificates for recognised qualifications, personal statements or signed witness testimonies.  The portfolio is assessed and may be given a percentage grading, depending on the awarding body requirements.

What else do I need to know?

What is the new HND?
