Engineering Level 2 LocationCranford Avenue Course Overview Apply Now An Engineering Level 2 is aimed at those who wish to progress to Engineering Diploma Level 3, an apprenticeship or undertake further training within the Engineering Industry. The scheme has been designed to develop a greater understanding of the skills and knowledge required in an Industrial working environment. Completion of the course will also provide you with a Nationally recognised Level 2 vocationally specific qualification that will enable you to progress on to higher level Technician based courses offered within the college. The course creates an environment that will assist you in developing the practical skills, knowledge and personal qualities that are essential for career development and progression within the Engineering Industry. It offers any candidate the opportunity to use Industry standard machinery and equipment whilst studying for a qualification recognised at all levels across Industry.

Course programme

You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade A* - D including English and Maths or have an equivalent qualification. You should have good attendance at your previous school or college and demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation at interview. Applications are welcome from mature students who may have the relevant industrial experience or other suitable qualifications. Course Content You will study the following units: • Mathematics for Engineering Technicians • Producing Mechanical Engineering Drawings using a CAD system • Preparing and using Lathes for Turning Operations • Preparing and using Milling Machines • Using and Communicating Technical Information • Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering • Working Safely in an Engineering Environment • Functional skills or GCSE’s in Mathematics and English How will I be assessed? All units are assessed through completion of practical tests and associated assessment material / assignments. This will assist you in creating a portfolio of evidence that is assessed and then internally / externally verified. Progression Successful completion of this course will enable you to apply for the College Apprenticeship Scheme which is run in conjunction with Local Industry. Alternatively successful completion of this course along with FS Maths & English or GCSE Maths & English allows you to progress on to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering. Fees • If you are aged 16–18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
