What will I learn?
Core Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Maintenance Advanced Apprenticeship units:
- Complying with Statutory Regulations and Organisational Safety Requirements
- Using Engineering Drawings and Documents
- Working Efficiently and Effectively
- Handing over and Confirming Completion of Maintenance Activities
- Carrying out Fault Diagnosis on Mechanical Equipment
- Maintaining Mechanical Equipment
Optional units:
- Restoring Mechanical Components to Usable Condition by Repair
- Producing Replacement Components for Maintenance Activities
- Carrying out Preventative Planned Maintenance on Mechanical Equipment
- Carrying out Condition Monitoring of Plant and Equipment
- Assisting in the Installation of Mechanical Equipment
As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills/GCSEs in English and maths, plus ICT.
What are the entry requirements?
Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification and 4 GCSEs (grades A* – C), or equivalent, including English, maths or science.
What next?
Higher education opportunities may include the HNC/HND in Engineering at Colchester Institute. Career pathways may include progression within maintenance technician roles

Considering an apprenticeship?
Many young people look to an apprenticeship to gain valuable skills directly in the workplace.
You can apply for both an apprenticeship, and a full-time course as your back up,
but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.

ensuring you complete section 4 of the form. In order to start your apprenticeship you must have an employer
ready to complete your apprenticeship with.
