Engineering New Diploma Level 1

Course Level 1

Description
The Engineering Diploma will give you a solid foundation in engineering principles and provide you with the thinking and learning skill needed for future employment and/or further study. The themes that underpin the diploma are mathematics and science, technology, problem solving, communication, creative and innovative thinking, and health and safety. The course is a mixture of practical and theoretical studies.

Course Length
Two years from 14 to 16 in collaboration with your school.

What will I study?
Level 2 comprises of 7 units of study
Introducing the world of engineering
Practical engineering and communication skills
Using Computer Aided Design
Routine maintenance operations
Introducing engineering materials
Introducing electronics
Engineering in the future

How will I learn?
Parts of the course will be taught at school, then usually one day per week at Stephenson College.

How will I be assessed?
By a range of methods which include practical work, assessments, and externally set tests.

Where could it lead?
The Diploma prepares the candidate for a variety of different pathways including further courses within engineering, or occupational areas and apprenticeships. The qualification will open up a wide variety of progression opportunities. The Level 1 Diploma is equal to 5 GCSEs D-G grade.
