About this course

The entry level will be dependant upon appropriate A* - C grades at GCSE or achievement in a level 2 Engineering diploma or equivalent. A good command of basic mathematical principles is required

The themes that underpin the diploma are mathematics and science, technology, problem solving, communication, creative and innovative thinking, and health and safety. The course is a mixture of practical and theoretical studies.

Two years post 16

What will I study?
Level 3 comprises of 9 units of study
Engineering business and the environment
Application of Computer Aided Design
Selection and application of engineering materials
Instrumentation and control
Maintaining engineering systems and products
Production and manufacturing
Innovative design and enterprise
Mathematical techniques and applications for engineers
Scientific principles and applications for engineers

How will I learn?
Full time course at the Stephenson College.

How will I be assessed?
By a range of methods which include practical work, written assignments, assessments, and externally set tests.

Where could it lead?
The Diploma prepares the candidate for a variety of different pathways including further courses within engineering or occupational areas, and apprenticeships. The qualification will open up a wide variety of progression opportunities and provide a recognised route in to higher education. The Level 3 Diploma is equal to 3 full A levels.
