Programme structure
Year 1:

  • Approaches to Poetry and
  • Approaches to Shakespeare or Contemporary Writing or Introduction to Old English
  • Introduction to Philosophy A and B
  • Introduction to Formal Logic
  • Choose from:

- Philosophical Texts 1, 2, 3 or 4
- Introduction to Philosophy of Science

Year 2:

  • Literature 1 (1200-1500) followed by Literature 2 (1500-1700) or
  • Literature 1 (1200-1500) followed by special subject or
  • Special subject followed by Literature 2 (1500-1700)
  • Realism
  • Normativity
  • Plus at least two units from:

- Epistemology
- Political Philosophy
- Philosophy of Mind
- Ethics
- Philosophy of Language
- Logic 2
- Philosophy of Science Philosophy of Mathematics
- or other second-year unit offered

Year 3:

  • Literature 3 (1700-1830) followed by Literature 4 (1830-1945) or
  • Literature 3 (1700-1830) followed by special subject or dissertation or
  • Special subject followed by Literature 4 (1830-1945)
  • Two Philosophy optional units
  • One extended essay
