Course Content Award: GCSE - Single Award
What's it all about?: Do you enjoy reading novels, plays and poetry? It won't be all reading and listening though because you'll get plenty of chances to get your own thoughts and ideas down on paper too.
Progression: Successful completion can lead to progression to advanced level English, subject to grades. Whether or not students continue studying English, the single award is a recognised and essential qualification.
Entry Requirements: In our experience in order to be successful on this level of course you will need one of the following:
• four GCSEs at grades D-F (including English and maths)
• a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
• an NVQ Level 1/technical certificate in a related subject
• successful completion of the Gateway/Newstart course
• successful completion of the E2E/Prince's Trust course
• equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

What does the course involve?:
Single award English involves studying some literature and texts from other cultures and some personal writing. Texts studied range from the 16th Century to the present day.
When can I study?: Various days and times
Are there any exams?: 40% of the available marks come from coursework, four written and three oral, and 60% come from two final exams.
