Course Overview

This course draws on existing strengths in learning and research on language and literature within the internationally-recognised Media School at BU.

The focus is on exploring English within the context of new media.

On this degree, students will be introduced to the latest developments in digital literature and new media writing, while also exploring 'classic' texts across media, for example studying Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice alongside television and film adaptations of the novel, fan fiction and comics based on Austen's characters.

Units include introductions to critical theory and theories of genre, the relationship between fact and fiction, world literatures, and debates surrounding the representation of gender and sexuality.

There is also a four week work-based placement between the second and third years, allowing you to investigate and experience employment possibilities.

Why BU?

  • These degrees are an ideal underpinning for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which will take just one more year of full-time study
