Course Overview
Improve your English skills and acquire a qualification asked for by employers or needed for entry onto other courses, especially Higher Education.

Course Structure
This is a part-time programme delivered over one year once a week on a Wednesday afternoon or Wednesday evening.

This Course will explore both the uses of English Language and a selection of literary texts from a variety of periods and cultures. You will learn how to compose essays, letters and articles and how to write in the correct register. Part of the course focuses on spoken skills and you will be required to work in small groups or in pairs to enhance your ability to argue a point of view or to exchange ideas. You will also be required to give an individual talk on a personal interest.The literary study will encourage students to understand, respond to and enjoy literature drawn from the English literary heritage and from other cultures and traditions.

Qualification Aims
GCSE English Language is frequently asked for by employers and is often a necessity for entry into other educational courses.

Assessments/Examinations
Two 1½ hour written examinations make up 60% of the course mark. Coursework assessment on both written and spoken English completed during the year forms the remaining 40% of the marks.

Tuition fee for students over 19 at the start of the course, including exam fee:£188

You will need stationery, folder, pen, dictionary and pencil. You will also be required to purchase some recommended textbooks. Full details will be given at the start of the course.
