Preparatory Programme: You will be assessed through a paper-based assessment in December Your attitude towards learning and your abilities in class will also be reviewed
GCSE: Should you meet the requirements of the Preparatory Programme we will invite you back to the second element of the programme The final assessment is two paper-based exams that will take place during the summer 2017 The two exams are Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing and Writers, Viewpoints and Perspectives Both papers are of equal weight with a maximum of eighty marks, forty marks for reading and forty marks for writing
What may it lead to?This is a preparatory programme which enables you to progress onto and achieve a GCSE in English The preparatory element of the programme runs for four months (September - December) and will equip you with the relevant skills to complete your GCSE In order to progress onto the GCSE programme you're required to pass the December assessment and have maintained 90% attendance
If you complete both elements (Preparatory and GCSE Programme) and achieve a 9-5 (which is equivalent to A*- C on the old specification) you will have access to many career and educational opportunities in your chosen field Attending this programme will also improve your employability opportunities
Entry RequirementsYou must have GCSE English at grade D from the last three years Alternatively, you can take a computer-based and written assessment before your interview to see if you have the right basic level of English before attempting this demanding programme
Additional Information & Other CostsThis programme follows the AQA 8700 syllabus and covers critical reading and comprehension, writing and spoken language This programme is run in two sections The initial part (preparatory programme) commences in September and finishes in December During this time your attendance, performance and attitude will be monitored on which we will form a decision as to whether you progress onto the next part of the programme Should you meet the requirements you will return in January and sit your exams in summer 2017
Fee: The first section of the programme is charged at £9500 which is non-refundable The remainder of your programme, should you meet the requirements, will be free of charge
