What is this course about? You work on spelling, punctuation and planning your writing. What will I study? What reading will we do on the course?
Study of a variety of texts, some chosen by the exam board and some by the class. Texts will include fiction, drama, poetry and non-fiction. One of the texts will be a Shakespeare play. The syllabus includes media texts, which means magazines, newspapers, and Internet sites.
What writing will we do on the course?
We will develop different types of writing including autobiographical, imaginative, persuading and informing, as well as reviewing or analysing written texts or video performances. We will do work on spelling, punctuation planning and presentation.
What about speaking and listening?
You can develop your confidence and competence in speaking and listening in pairs, small groups and larger groups, through a range of situations and activities and to a variety of audiences (this will make up 20% of the final mark).
What qualification will I get? English GCSE. We follow the AQA Higher Tie in which students are aiming for Grades C, B, or A. The exams take place in early June. In the first semester you will also work towards gaining a Certificate in National Literacy test at an appropriate level,
What can I do after the course? GCSE English at Grade C or above is regarded as an acceptable language qualification for entry to higher education courses and for employment purposes.
