Course programme

Our well balanced learning tools guarantee progress. All language courses incorporate the elements you need to succeed: improving communication skills in speaking and writing, handling practical situations, understanding the basic of language, and improving learning through practice. If you do not find a course that suits your particular needs, for example a professional course, we will put an effort to tailor one for you!

Our teachers are all college or university graduates with qualifications in teaching English as a foreign language. They work hard to ensure that you learn as much as possible, whether you are here short or long term, while balancing the social aspects of your experience as well.

Your teachers will constantly be available to monitor your improvements and learning needs, and you should expect regular homework, regular tests and tutorials which give you the opportunity to openly discuss matters with your teachers.

Full Time (15 Hours per week)

This course focuses on speaking, listening, reading and writing with emphasis on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Our aim is to help you become more fluent and confident in English and to develop communicative ability. General English is divided in to Beginner, Elementary, Lower-intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-intermediate and advanced classes.

The most appropriate starting course for each student will be chosen through and initial meeting with the teachers at OCL and / or a short test. Regular test and reports are designed to measure your progress and ensure that the course meets your personal objectives. Your classmates will have a similar knowledge of English to you.

In general terms:

  • Beginner - you know only a few words of English
  • Elementary - you have a general basic ability to communicate in familiar situations in every day life. You can survive in many simple travel and social contexts.
  • Lower - Intermediate - you have a good basic ability to communicate in a range of everyday social and travel contexts. You need to develop your listening, grammar and vocabulary.
  • Intermediate - you understand and speak English with some confidence. You can improve by developing your fluency, your understanding of grammar and by widening your vocabulary.
  • Upper-Intermediate - you use English with ease and fluency. You can improve by learning to discuss, argue and express opinions in a culturally acceptable way and by refining grammar and vocabulary.
  • Advanced - you can use English in a range of culturally appropriate ways. You can improve by extending your vocabulary and refining your use of style, voice and ';register' (the use of language appropriate to a certain situation).

There is no minimum period for which a student may pursue these courses. Minimum length of the courses is 4 weeks.

Full Time ( 15 Hours per week)

Teaching Method - using topical news discussions and social language to complement any combination of selected course books. Teaching will comprise elements as varied as film, music, popular fiction, classical literature, newspapers, magazines, corporate brochures, radio, local culture and current affairs. By employing these real life examples we seek to bring your lessons to life. We also work hard to develop your communicative confidence by teaching your pronunciation, stress and intonation - the ';music of language'. In addition we will teach you to understand a number of accents that you are likely to encounter in the real world both in formal and informal situations.
