Your Course
GCSE English Language is an exciting and diverse subject that allows students to encounter a wide range of texts including media, 19th-century literature, a Shakespeare play and poetry from other cultures. Students are given the opportunity to respond to the material in a variety of ways, creatively, analytically and verbally - and throughout the taught course, will build up a coursework folder worth 40% of the overall mark. In addition to the formal objectives, this course aims to stimulate students' interest in reading and encourage informed and vigorous responses. GCSE English Language is a vital qualification for anybody wishing to embark on higher education or secure meaningful employment.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course candidates are required to demonstrate their ability to:
· communicate clearly and imaginatively, structuring talk to suit a range of situations whilst adopting particular roles and a range of oratorical techniques
·read with insight and engagement, showing an understanding of how writers use linguistics, structural and presentational devices to achieve their effects
·write clearly and imaginatively, adapting forms for different readers and purposes. Writing must include a range of sentences types and be structured with paragraphs and pertinent punctuation
·Your Tutor
Sara Shaw is an English teacher at a secondary school in neighbouring Essex. She has a degree and PGCE from the University of Cambridge and more recently studied for an MA in English at Anglia Ruskin University. As an adult learner herself, Sara is sensitive to the challenges some students may face but is confident that participation in the course will be a wonderfully enlightening and invigorating experience.

Tuition fees: £270
Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.
