English for Literacy and Language Teaching Award (Level 3)

The course covers the LLUK entry requirements for the Level 5 subject specific literacy and ESOL teacher education programmes. There are four mandatory units: Analysing English language for literacy and language teaching Reading skills for literacy and language teaching Speaking and listening skills for literacy and language teaching Writing skills for literacy and language teaching. The 12-credit Award includes 45 contact hours, when a variety of strategies will be used including whole-class, pair and individual work, presentations and workshop activities. Non-contact hours include reading and research activities. Achievement of this Award will fulfil the LLUK entry assessment requirements for entry to the Level 5 Subject Specialist Diplomas in Literacy and ESOL. GCSE English A-C, or equivalent. There is no requirement to undertake practical teaching. If you are not yet teaching literacy or ESOL, it could lead on to the Level 3 Certificate for Essential Skills Practitioners (C&G 8375) or complement generic teacher training courses – e.g. PTLLS or CTLLS.
