Course programme
You will study and share ideas with your classmates about a wide variety of texts. The extensive reading you will undertake on this course includes poetry, prose and drama from different periods, including at least one play by Shakespeare, other texts written before 1900, and one text written after 2000. This breadth of study will enable you to consider the ways in which texts relate to one another and to literary traditions, movements and genres.
- You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A Level courses, which are based on your GCSE results.
- In addition, you must have achieved at least a grade B and a grade C in at least two written subjects, e.g. History, Geography, Humanities, English Literature, Business, Religious Studies or English Language.
International students:
- Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered.
- IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill) or equivalent.
The assessment is 20% coursework and 80% by written exam.
English A Level is one of the bedrock qualifications for success, whether you want to progress to Higher Education or into work. Taken as one of three A Levels, it can get you into University. Taken alongside another Humanities subject - e.g. History or Drama - it can allow you to specialise in a particular field at Higher Education.
