Content / Overview:
English Literature is for anyone who enjoys reading and lively debate. The course, which includes Shakespeare as well as poetry, prose, drama, and creative writing, is designed to build upon skills already acquired and gives the opportunity to develop individual critical awareness. Assessment is by essays, coursework and exam of the set texts. There are plenty of opportunities to attend courses and lectures throughout the year. In addition, there is a residential visit to the battlefields of France and Belgium as preparation for a study of literature of the Great War. This demanding but enjoyable course is very popular and students have achieved excellent results. The subject provides the basis for numerous degree courses.
