This English Literature module is for students who love reading and who would enjoy the opportunity to explore a range of different kinds of literary texts. Assignments will allow students to analyse and evaluate prose, poetry, non-fiction writing and drama.

This English Literature module is for students who love reading and who would enjoy the opportunity to explore a range of different kinds of literary texts. Assignments will allow students to analyse and evaluate prose, poetry, non-fiction writing and drama.
The course will help students to develop critical skills, expressing their responses both orally and in writing. They will respond to character, setting and theme and will explore the importance of form, structure, style and context, commenting both on texts studied in class and on unseen texts under exam conditions.
Course content
Unit 1
- Short story anthology study
- Poetry anthology - study and test
Unit 2
- "Shakespeare" coursework study
- Poetry and modern novel - final exam
Unit 1
- Short stories - (1500 words) cousework essay - 30% of marks
- Poetry - end test (1.5 hours) - 20% of marks
Unit 2
- Shakespeare - (1500 words) coursework essay - 30% of marks
- Poetry and modern novel - exam (1.5 hours) - 20% of marks
Please note that students will need to provide themselves with 2/3 texts - only the anthology of poetry and the short story anthology will be provided.
This is an evening course - Monday 6.30 - 9.30pm.
