Course Objectives: 1.Practice and learn all vowel and consonant sounds of neutral English. 2.Learn to use IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). 3.Recognize and produce the three English intonation patterns. 4.Apply British speech structures (weak forms, joining, stress patterns). 5.Overall improvement in listening and speaking accuracy, control over accent. Suitable for: Speakers of Greek or the Latin based languages: French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Romanian.

Course Structure
Classes 2 to 8 are dedicated to learning and practicing phonetics, speech structure and intonation. Each 2-hour class will cover some of the following sections:
- Consonant Sounds - Learning the mouth positions and production of all the consonants of English.
- Vowel Sounds - Learning the mouth positions and spellings of the 19 English vowel sounds.
- Spelling & Sound - Studying the way written English is interpreted in speech (silent letters, endings etc.)
- IPA - Learning to use the phonetic alphabet.
- Speech Structure - Studying the way English speech is formed: weak forms, joining, stress, contracting.
- Intonation - Producing and applying the three English intonation patterns to questions, answers, information, implication and conversation.
Homework is given each week, and includes:
- Daily repetition exercises to improve sound production.
- Theory homework: listening & reading exercises.
- Conversation Practise: Learning & producing conversations.
Activities
Classes contain a wide range of activities including:
- Repetition practice (to master sounds).
- Phonetic transcriptions (to perceive English phonetically)
- Conversation
