What's it all about?:
If you are a migrant worker, it is important to communicate effectively. Developing your communication skills will enhance your ability to progress and intergrate in your life and work in the UK. This programme is co-financed by the Learning and Skills Council.

Progression:
After completing this course, learners can progress to Entry Levels 1 or 2 Skills for Life ESOL courses at City College Plymouth.

Entry Requirements:
Employees who speak English as a second language are assessed for level of language acquisition. Those who need a basic level can do this course. Those at a more advanced level are signposted to other courses.

Learners are more able to communicate with their managers and colleagues, situations at work and in their daily lives.

Course Overview
What does the course involve?:

Topics include:

• health and safety at work

• communication at work

• English for life in the UK.

You attend group sessions with a qualified and experienced ESOL teacher. Homework is set between sessions. Timing and length of sessions (up to 20 hours) is negotiated with your employer.

Are there any exams?:
You receive an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) with targets agreed by you and your teacher. Progress against targets is checked throughout the course.
