Course programme

Modules

Coursework will be real-life and practical in nature and include the development of web pages, marketing strategies and business plans. An eight-week work placement will also help you to build on your understanding of business and enterprise practice.

Year 1
  • Enterprise and entrepreneurship skills development
    This module covers skills relevant to the workplace, employability, professional activity and standards, behaviour and responsibilities with particular focus on SMEs and to the role of the entrepreneur.
  • Business systems, an introductory managerial perspective
    This module covers interrelated areas concerning information systems and technology and its importance in the business world.
  • Marketing for small businesses
    This module introduces core marketing concepts and applies them in the context of a small business.
  • Social, ethical and legal issues
    An introduction to the general principles of law and how these relate to ethics.
  • Product development
    This module is an introduction to the processes of product development.
  • Fundamentals of accounting
    This module introduces the basics of financial accounting, and assumes no prior knowledge of the subject.
  • Quantitative techniques for small business
    You'll learn to analyse, understand and communicate the information contained in numerical data.
Year 2
  • Enterprise and small business management
    This module provides the knowledge base, skills, and practical strategies to enable you to develop the capabilities for entrepreneurial action, and to articulate these capabilities persuasively and successfully in terms of novel business idea.
  • Managing your business
    Accountants provide accounting information to management to aid planning, control, management and operational activities of the organisation.
  • Organisations, systems and people
    This module is concerned with key interlocking areas of operational management and strategy, supporting technology, and people management.
  • Research methods for business and management
    Students studying business and management studies are required to undertake a research project in their final year as part of their degree program.
  • E-business
    This module examines the business and technology concepts and fundamentals underlying e-Business from organisational, managerial and consumer perspectives.
  • Small business law
    This module provides the opportunity to develop the general principles of English Business Law as they relate to the provision of goods and services.
