Entry Level in Horticulture

Aim This 1 year course is suitable for those learners who wish to gain skills which can be used in paid employment or voluntary work. The emphasis is on independence and is appropriate for those preparing for Level 1 qualifications.
Content All students will study health and safety, together with sessions to improve literacy and numeracy. The units to be completed are:
· Find out about horticulture
· Select and find out about a job role in horticulture
· Propagate plants
· Prepare and plant
· Care for young plants until maturity.
The course will run for 4 days each week with a proportion of the time being spent on practical activities at local projects.
You will be assessed throughout the course through a series of assignments which will be centre-assessed and externally moderated by an OCR Moderator.
Progression/career opportunities
After achieving the required level of skill we may encourage you to move onto a Level 1 course or seek employment in voluntary or paid employment.
Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
