What are the Course Details?
This is a one year full time course that has been developed for people who want to learn more about land, environment and conservation.

The course is delivered via a package of qualifications that combine theory and practical work to help you achieve your goal.

What will I Learn?
You will take a number of qualifications as part of this programme that will prepare you for either work or further study.

When you start the course you will undertake the:

AQA GCSE Environmental Science (full year of study)

Alongside OCNW Certificate in Developing Environmental Awareness:
  • Introduction to the Principles of Environmental Awareness
  • Managing Energy Usage
  • Reducing the Risk of Pollution
  • Managing Water Use
  • Promoting Sustainable Food
  • Carbon Use Within Organisations

After you achieve the OCNW Certificate you will continue with your GCSE studies and progress to the BTEC First Diploma in Countryside and Environment:
  • Work Related Experience in Countryside & Environment
  • Countryside and Environment Industry and Organisations
  • Practical Land-Based Skills
  • Conservation and Improvement of British Habitats
  • Countryside Access and Recreation
  • Waste and Pollution Control and Management

You will also take Functional Skills in Maths, English and IT.

How will I Learn?
Teaching and learning will be delivered via a combination of classroom based theory sessions and workshop time. There will also be field trips to allow you to explore a range of environmental and conservation techniques.

How will I be Assessed?
All your qualifications will be assessed via portfolios of evidence/coursework. These can include projects and assignments set by your tutor. You will sit an examination for the GCSE in Environmental Science and you will sit tests for the Functional Skills.

What Enrichments are Available?
The college offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities from which you will choose. These will include course related and non-course related opportunities such as sports clubs, conservation, construction plus much more.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
There will be a number of trips/visits during the course.


Is there any Work Experience?
There will be 'live projects' that enable you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge within the field of environment and conservation.

What can I Progress to?
You can progress to further study at Level 3 or to employment within land, environment and conservation.

Equipment Required etc. You will be required to provide your own safety footwear, trousers, tshirt, fleece and stationery. Approximate cost is £150
