Course programme

  • International Association of Maritime Institutions (IAMI) Engineering Knowledge (EK) written examinations.

  • MCA oral examination for Engineer Officer of the Watch (EOOW) at III/1 level.


The IAMI administers the written Engineering Knowledge examination on behalf of MCA. The college provides the examination form and associated guidance during induction. Oral examinations are booked directly with the MCA examination centre of your choice.


Following sea time requirements apply:

  • 6 months of approved sea time: if you have enrolled on the course before July 2013.

  • 9 months of approved sea time: if you have enrolled on the course after July 2013.

  • 12 months of approved sea time: if you have not met the above sea time requirement within 42 months since enrolment on your course of study.
