Course programme
The programme starts with beginner level English, moving onto spoken English (Entry Level 3), and then beginner level Literacy (reading and writing). You will improve all areas of your English, whatever your starting level is.
You will go on a variety of trips and take part in a range of extra-curricular activities, from football to first aid.
You will develop employability skills to help you in the world of work, and some learners will also have the chance to volunteer and gain work experience. Careers guidance and discussions about your next step are an important part of the course.
You will receive lots of tutorial support, and a youth worker will also provide support on this programme.
This course is most suited to young people who have had only a few years' secondary education in the UK, or are recent arrivals in the country. You must have been at least 16 years of age last August.
You will be fully assessed at enrolment so that we can place you in the best class for you. Your skills in IT, Maths and English will be tested.
How you will be assessed will depend on your needs and goals. In ESOL, for example, you would take the Cambridge Skills for Life Qualification from Entry Level 1 right up to Level 2. Your lecturers and tutors will work with you to decide which qualification you're ready for.
You may progress to the next level of ESOL, or to a vocational course at the College in areas such as Applied Sciences or Childcare.
Learners with the highest level of ESOL and an appropriate educational background are able to join A Level or Access to Higher Education programmes.
